VANDALIZED MASTERPIECE

woman-918616_1920

She signed her name on an old park bench
With a razor blade
She wrote “I was here” but she’ll soon be gone
No reason left to wait
All she came to do was breathe her last
Just as soon as the church ladies walk past

THEY JUST SAW A GIRL IN BLACK BOOTS
WITH TOO MANY TATTOOS
VANDALIZING PUBLIC PROPERTY
BEHIND HER CIGARETTE SMOKE
LIES A VANDALIZED SOUL
THAT NONE OF THEM WANT TO SEE

She traced his name beside her own
As an afterthought
The only one that she’d ever loved
And the last one that she’d lost
All she wants to do is quickly die
Just as soon as the line of cars go by

ALL THEY SEE IS A GIRL IN BLACK BOOTS
WITH TOO MANY TATTOOS
VANDALIZING PUBLIC PROPERTY
BEHIND HER CIGARETTE SMOKE
LIES A VANDALIZED SOUL
THAT NONE OF THEM WANT TO SEE

The struggle to survive alone
Just to make ends meet
The father that she never knew
The baby that she couldn’t keep
She’s come to watch her life run out
And now there’s no one left to worry about

BUT ALL WE SAW WAS A GIRL IN BLACK BOOTS
WITH TOO MANY TATTOOS
VANDALIZING PUBLIC PROPERTY
BEHIND HER CIGARETTE SMOKE
LIES A VANDALIZED SOUL
WE DIDN’T CARE TO SEE.

Time stands still & she counts to three
Quick & easy end
We’re in our cars & on the street
She’s slumped on the bench
She’s ready now just as soon as we pass by
But what if we don’t pass by

WHAT IF WE SEE A GIRL IN BLACK BOOTS
SCORNED & ABUSED
MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN SHE CAN EVER SEE
PAST HER CIGARETTE SMOKE
LIES A LITTLE GIRLS SOUL
DYING TO BE SEEN

She won’t die today, someone look past public property
She won’t die today, can’t you see she’s God’s masterpiece
Tell her she’s God’s masterpiece.
Show her she’s God’s masterpiece
